You might already know Nathan’s been battling hip pain for months, an unwelcome travel companion. Then came New York, where the pain went from annoying to unbearable. Fun fact: it nearly ruined his dream proposal because he couldn’t even bend properly, despite practicing on one knee for weeks! Talk about pressure.

Since then, we’ve managed to squeeze in trips to Switzerland and Turkey, making the most of what we could despite the pain. But now, Nathan’s had a hip replacement, and we’re hopeful this surgery will genuinely change his life, and ours, as we get ready to set off on our big one-way ticket adventure this August.

The timing? Perfect, if by perfect you mean “let’s schedule major surgery right before a globe-trotting trip.” Yep, sarcasm fully intended.

Recovery will be slow and steady, but here’s the silver lining: no pressure to rush back into travel mode. We’ve got time on our side, which means patience, Netflix marathons, and a lot of snacks while Nathan heals.

This whole experience is reshaping how we think about accessible travel, from planning and pacing to embracing the unexpected detours. Because travel isn’t just about the places you visit; it’s about how you get there (even if that journey involves physio and hospital gowns).

If you’re following our adventures, expect some honest updates on traveling with a disability, juggling recovery, and still chasing those boujee-but-accessible travel dreams. We’re proving updates via TikTok on his recovery, so make sure you follow along here.

Here’s to the twists, turns, and hip replacements that make the best stories.
